Lesson Objectives:
L/O1 - identify the need for RELIABILITY and REDUNDANCY in computing
L/O2 - describe how a system can be made more RELIABLE
Starter
What is a CRITICAL system?
With a partner, discuss what you think is meant by a CRITICAL system
Main Task
What can go wrong? What are the consequences?
1. Make a list of all the things that can go wrong with a Computer System.
eg. power cut
Add your ideas here - PADLET
How do companies prevent this from happening?
2. Research how big companies ensure these things do NOT happen and add to your blog under Theory - Reliability & Redundancy
Extension
How is a computer systems reliability measured?
Plenary
In pairs:
PERSON 1- Imagine you are an irate customer/user of a system that is not working and you have phoned to complain
PERSON 2- Imagine you are in charge of the computing system that is failing and you have to reassure the user/customer that you are working hard to fix the problem (tell them 3 measures you are putting in place)
KEYWORDS
Critical System, Reliability, Redundancy, Back Up
